Lawrence R. Thwaits, 84, Syracuse, passed away on March 27, 2018 at Goshen hospital.  He was born on November 28, 1933 in Goshen, IN. He was a farmer for 20 years, Broker/Owner Thwaits Realty 21 years.  He was awarded Top 10 Salesperson Goshen Board of Realtors.  He was an Instrument rated Private Pilot, avid fisherman, and he loved bowling and was inducted into the Goshen Bowling Association Hall of Fame.  He was a Mason, Lions Club member, and President of the New Paris Chamber of Commerce.  His greatest treasure in life was his family.   He is survived by his wife Doris Thwaits of Syracuse.  Son Dr. James (Sally) Thwaits of Syracuse.  2 daughters Patty Overholt of Syracuse and Carol (John) Ploetz of Willis, TX.  4 grandchildren – Adam Thwaits, Jennifer (Thwaits) Borchelt, Amanda Ploetz, & Rebecca Ploetz.   6 great-grandchildren- Madilyn Thwaits, Simon Thwaits, Noah Thwaits, Gus Borchelt, Patrick Borchelt, and Jude Borchelt.  Many nieces and nephews also survive.  He was preceded by 2 sisters and 4 brothers.  A private family interment will be held at Syracuse cemetery.  A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 10:30 AM at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Syracuse, Indiana with a luncheon to follow.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Calvary United Methodist Church of Syracuse or Goshen Hospice.
