Cheryl Smith
Cheryl Arvin Smith, 79, died March 26, at 6:12 a.m. at Waterford Crossing, Goshen, following a long-term illness.
She was born February 9, 1947, in Lafayette, IN to the late Kenneth Burdette and Rose Maurine (Bell) Arvin.
She was a 1965 graduate of Remington High School, Remington, IN and attended Ball State and Purdue University.
On June 8, 1968, she married Steven Carson Smith, also from Remington. They moved to the Syracuse area in 1974. Steve preceded her in death on June 15, 1994.
On June 25, 2005, she married Edward “Poppy” Smith on Tippecanoe Lake, Leesburg, IN. Cheryl and Poppy wintered in Bonita Springs, FL and spent their summers at Patona Bay on Tippecanoe Lake, Leesburg, IN, where they were surrounded by a large circle of friends they called family.
While in school, she was an outstanding student and a highly decorated musician and vocalist. She sang in the choir and shared her gift of music by playing the organ and piano for several area churches, as well as for many couples on their wedding day—adding her special touch to life’s meaningful moments.
She was employed for more than 40 years with Joe Todd of Todd Realty, Syracuse, where she built many lasting relationships and was known for her dedication, humor and warm spirit.
She enjoyed painting and creating home decorations with “The Wawasee Woodnuts,” a venture she shared with her best friend, Jan Keim, bringing creativity and joy to those around them. She was a member of the Mother’s Clubs in Syracuse in the 1980’s while her children attended Wawasee Community Schools.
She was a longtime member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church, Syracuse; an Auxiliary member of Syracuse American Legion Post 223; and an Auxiliary member of The Syracuse Eagles #3760. She especially loved supporting her grandchildren in their sporting events and 4-H activities, and could often be found enjoying karaoke at local venues with Poppy, creating fun memories with family and friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Stephanie (Tod) DeBolt, Millersburg, IN and a son, Randy (Michelle) Smith, Goshen, IN; five grandchildren, Ashley (Jaren) Kilian, Krista Parker, and Becca, Carson and Anderson Smith; and five great-grandchildren, Abigail and Aidan Kilian, Remington and Grayson Parker, and Ryatt Watts. 1 brother Scott (Linda) Arvin of Lafayette, IN.
She is preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Julie Annis, and her husbands.
A Celebration of Cheryl’s Life will be held Monday, April 6 from 4-8 PM at The Table @108, 108 North Main Street, Goshen, IN.
Eastlund Funeral Home, Syracuse, IN is handling arrangements for the family.
