David L. Heckaman

David L. Heckaman, 72, of Syracuse, IN passed away on May 21, 2012 at the IU Health, Goshen Hospital. He was born on November 28, 1939 in South Bend, IN to Loren & Edna (Lentz) Heckaman. He graduated from Bremen High School, while there he was a Drum Major in the Marching Band. He the attended Purdue University in Fort Wayne, IN earning his Associates Degree in Electrical Engineering. On October 20, 1962 he married Constance Sudlow who survives. He was a member of the Air National Guard 122nd Fighter Wing out of Fort Wayne’s Baer Field serving as an Air Traffic Controller. Upon moving to Syracuse, David worked for Sudlow’s Pier Shop. He and his wife purchased the business in 1979 from where he eventually retired as the CEO. He enjoyed photography, and had taken many pictures. He especially enjoyed the Mute Swans. He and others helped prevent the elimination of the Swans in our area. He served on the Board of Directors of the City of Milwaukee at Manastee Michigan which is a Car Ferry that is listed on the National Registry. He spent vacations at Manastee Michigan. He built a home on the shore of Lake Michigan some 35 years ago. He is survived by his wife – Constance Heckaman of Syracuse. 1 son – John (Kelly) Heckaman of Syracuse. Daughter in Law Dawn Heckaman. Grandchildren – Caitlin, Alec, Jamsey. Mother in Law Anna Sudlow of Syracuse. He was preceded by his son Rex , his brother Dr. Edward Heckaman, and his parents. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 23, 2012 from 2-4 & 6-8 at the Eastlund Funeral Home. Services will be Thursday, May 24, 2012 at 10 AM at the funeral home. Lifelong friend Larry Van Gilder will officiate services. Interment will follow at the McClintic Cemetery in Syracuse. Memorial Contributions may be made to: Turkey Creek EMS & Fire departments.
