David Lee Shields

David Lee Shields, 64, of Syracuse, IN passed away on January 13, 2012 at his residence.  He was born on October 21, 1947 in Marion, IN to Carl & Helen (Clark) Shields.  He was a 1967 graduate of North Webster High School.  On October 18, 1969 he married Nancy Jo Koher who survives.  Dave served in the US Army from 1968-1971.  He worked in sales throughout his adult life, including Insurance sales, as well as Auto/RV sales.  He was a barber prior to his career in sales.  Dave was a member of the Wawasee Heights Baptist Church, where he was an active member of the Monday evening Men’s Bible Study and was responsible, along with his wife, for serving Sunday morning breakfast on special occasions.  He loved to share his faith with friends and family and was a mentor to many.  He enjoyed fishing and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle and was an avid Chicago Bears fan.  He was loved for his quick wit, wonderful sense of humor and gift of hospitality.  He will always be remembered for his contagious laugh.  He is survived by his wife – Nancy Jo Shields of Syracuse.  His son – Jeff (Nicky) Shields and granddaughters – Morgan & Emily of New Paris.  His brother – Dennis ((Sally) Shields of Marion and his sister Roberta (Ralph) Kauffman of Atlanta, IN.  His mother in law Jean Koher and brother in law J.R Koher of Syracuse.  He was preceded by his parents, 2 brothers and his father in law.  Calling will be Tuesday, January 17, 2012 from 4-8 pm at the Eastlund Funeral Home.  Services will be Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at the Wawasee Heights Baptist Church at 11:00 AM with Pastor Pat Park officiating.  There will be 1 hour of calling prior to the service at the church.  Burial will follow at the Syracuse Cemetery with full Military Honors.  Memorial contributions may be made to the Wawasee Heights Baptist Church.
