Dave was an avid outdoorsman and sportsman. He loved hunting, fishing, canoeing, snowmobiling and especially enjoyed Canadian fishing trips with his friends. Watching college basketball & golf were favorite pastimes.

He and Janice Marie Auer were married on January 15, 1972 and have lived in Syracuse ever since, while spending their winters in Lake Placid, Florida since retirement.

Dave was known as “Farley J. Rookstool, Jr., III”, “Farley” or just “Farls” to his close friends and family.

For 6 years, he served in the Army National Guard, and was honorably discharged in 1971. He was a member of American Legion Post 223 in Syracuse, The Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge, as well as the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Aerie 3760 in Syracuse, where he met with friends every week.
