Dixie Pryor
Dixie Rinker Pryor, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and teacher, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2025, at the age of 87.
Born on May 22, 1938, Dixie lived a life devoted to family, education, and community. She married the love of her life, Charles Pryor, in 1958, and together they shared decades filled with family, joy, and partnership, surrounded by children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
A proud graduate of Ball State University, Dixie began her teaching career in 1967. In 1972, she joined the faculty at North Webster Elementary School, where she became a cherished educator, inspiring generations of students for 30 years. She was honored as Teacher of the Year in 1994 and was deeply respected by her colleagues and students. Dixie also served as President of the Indiana State Reading Association, championing literacy and a lifelong love of learning across the state.
Beyond the classroom, Dixie was a trailblazer in community service. On March 21, 1988, she and her mother, Alice, became the first women to join the Lakeland Kiwanis Club. She was a proud member of the Palace of Sports Foundation and active at the North Webster Methodist Church. Dixie’s commitment to service reflected her deep belief in making a difference wherever she could.
Family was the heart of Dixie’s world. She and Charles raised three children: Cap Pryor (Suzanne), Deb Evans (Greg), and Laurie Owen (Randy). Her joy expanded with her grandchildren, Megan Smith (Zach), Emily Grimm (Bruce), Haley Park (Neil), Eli Owen (Kylie), Ben Evans (Heather), Allison Hilsman (Gamble), Charlie Pryor, and Izzy Pryor. The warmth she nurtured inspired her children and grandchildren to build families and traditions of their own, carrying forward the gatherings and love they grew up with. Together, they blessed her with 20 great-grandchildren, each bringing her immense pride and delight. Beyond her immediate family, Dixie also surrounded herself with many dear friends who became family in every sense of the word. Their love, laughter, and shared memories added even more richness to the life she cherished so deeply.
Dixie will be remembered for her unwavering devotion to her family, her lifelong dedication to education, her pioneering community service, and the love she extended to all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, wisdom, and joy that will continue to live on through her family, her students, her colleagues, and her friends.
