Geneva Brumfield

Geneva Brumfield, 93, of Syracuse, IN passed away on February 28, 2013 at the Avalon Village in Ligonier, IN.  She was born on September 12, 1919 in Syracuse, IN to Lewis & Mary Frances (Davis) Rogers.  After graduating High School she moved to Indianapolis until 1945 when she returned to Syracuse.  At that time she attended business courses and worked at the old Wilt’s factory.  She was a Jail Matron for 8 years .  In 1960 she became the 1st Woman Police Officer in the city of Warsaw.  On December 16, 1970 she married Gene Brumfield who was then the Chief of Police in Warsaw.  She retired from Law Enforcement in 1976 when she became a county clerk for the Sheriff, and Mayor to assist them in clerical and receptionist duties until 1984.  She was a member of the Warsaw Arts and Crafts Club,  Republicans Women’s Club,  American Legion Auxiliary, Fraternal Order of Police, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Ladies of the Shrine, and purchased her share of Girl Scout Cookies over the years.  She is survived by her brother – Ernie (Julie) Rogers of Syracuse.  1 nephew – Scott L. Rogers of Syracuse.  3 nieces – Shelly L.(Terry Stump) Rogers of Syracuse, Darlene Peck of Cromwell & Susie (Terry) McDonald of New Paris.  3 stepchildren – Dan (Dorothy) Brumfield of Port St. Lucie, FL,  Jody (Tom) Burns of Warsaw & Patty (Chuck) Williams of Las Vegas, NV.  7 stepgrandchildren & 9 step greatgrandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband Gene Brumfield,  brother Bill Rogers, sister in law Lucy Clayton-Rogers and her niece Stacy Rogers-List.  There will be a memorial service on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at 1:00 pm at the Eastlund Funeral Home with Pastor Brad Cox officiating.  Calling will be 1 hour prior to the service from noon until 1:00 pm.   Memorial contributions may be made to: New Hope Pet Rescue
