Gloria Stoffel
Gloria Stoffel, 93, died of pneumonia on February 25th at Mason Health and Rehabilitation in
Warsaw, after many years of living in the shadowlands of Alzheimer’s.
A former contestant in the Mermaid Festival beauty pageant, Gloria was meticulous about her
appearance. She never left the house without makeup; her kids and grandkids were on the
receiving end of many lipsticked kisses.
She was an avid golfer—her favorite course was South Shore—and she enjoyed playing bridge
and euchre with friends. She loved to exercise and belonged to a health club well into her
eighties.
She adored her family and welcomed new members by gifting them crocheted hats. She
brought her famous “grandma cookies” to most family gatherings. “Cookies” isn’t quite the right
word for the clusters of chocolate, peanuts, and marshmallows that would melt in your hands,
and as a result had to be eaten quickly (and usually in great quantity).
Born October 17, 1931 to Lula and Claude Matthew of New Castle, Indiana, Gloria graduated
from North Webster High School in the class of 1949.
She was the mother of seven children: Cinda (Bart) Culver, Carla Singrey, Chris (Kathy)
Singrey, Chad Singrey, Candice Hine, Curt Singrey, and Cathy (Jim) Twait. She was a grandma
to fourteen grandchildren and a great-grandma to seventeen great-grandchildren.
She converted to Catholicism in her fifties and attended St. Martin de Porres in Syracuse.
Gloria’s last few years on earth were eased by the caregivers at Mason, who cared for her
diligently as her body and mind unraveled.
She is preceded in death by daughters Carla Singrey and Candice Hine, grandson Wesley Cox,
great-grandchildren Grace Cox and Wesley Teague Cox II, and husband Gene Stoffel.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025 from 11-noon at Eastlund Funeral Home with services
beginning at noon.
