John Searfoss
John Searfoss, 87, of Syracuse, passed away on November 11, 2024 at Waterford Crossing Health Campus. He was born on August 5, 1937 in Goshen, IN. John owned and operated Searfoss Construction for over 50 years having just retired in January. He renovated and built many homes and business’s in the community. He was known for his craftmanship. As a member of the Syracuse Lions Club, he and his companion Marie built 5 Little Free Library Houses. They were placed at Syracuse Elementary, Wawasee Middle School, Syracuse Food Pantry at Grace Lutheran Church, WACF Education Center, and Syracuse Community Center. He also participated in the WACF Earthdays, where one year he designed butterfly nets for the children to build. For years he helped with the Elkhart County Tractor Pulls. He enjoyed fishing, especially in Canada, and travelling the country in his motorhome. He loved his family, and hosted many family gatherings in the summer at the pool. His pranks, dry sense of humor, and mischevious smile will be missed. He was a member of 4H, FFA, and New Paris Missionary Church. He is survived by his children – Tina (Robert) Kocher of Syracuse. Tony (Myrna Stallworth) Searfoss of Jacksonville, FL. Teresa Linville of Mishawaka. Grandchildren – Lynn Searfoss, Sandra Linville, & Joshua Linville. 2 Great-Grandchild, many nieces and nephews. Sister – Donna England. 2 brothers – Frank (Sandra) Searfoss, and Larry (Bev)Hibschman. Companion – Marie Butler-Knight. He was preceded by his parents, wife Gail Searfoss, brother Ron Hibschman, and Rons wife Elaine. Brother in law – Frank England. Visitation will be held on Friday, November 15, 2024 from 2-4 & 6-8 PM at the Eastlund Funeral Home. Services will be Saturday, November 16, 2024 at 11 AM at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the McClintic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Syracuse Food Pantry or the Syracuse Lions Club.
