Lawrence W. (Lotsie) Gaston

Lawrence W. (Lotsie) Gaston, 94, of Lighthouse Point, Florida, died on February 18, 2010. He was born on March 8, 1915, in Indianapolis, Indiana to Robert and Rose Gaston. Lotsie married Roberta Maxine Wilcox in 1935, and she was laid to rest on their 62nd wedding anniversary in 1997. They had lived in North Webster for many years. Lotsie was a retired Indianapolis police officer. Lotsie and Maxine are survived by their two children, Lawrence W. Gaston, Jr. (Susan) and Beverly A. Wallace. Lotsie is also survived by three grandchildren, Matthew W. Gaston (Patti), Stephen B. Gaston (Kris), and Meredith Wallace Marcell, and by 5 great-grandchildren, Michael, Katie, Mandy, Noah and Olivia.
Lotsie attended Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis where he and Maxine graduated in the early thirties. He worked at International Harvester and went on the Indianapolis Police Force in 1945. After his retirement, he worked on the Marion County Sheriff’s Department, and he also was a bailiff in Municipal Court in Marion County. He was a Member of the Masonic Lodge #705 in Cromwell, and Scottish Rite and the Murat Shrine in Indianapolis. He and Maxine lived for awhile in southern Florida, but returned to Indianapolis and eventually to North Webster where they lived on Irish and Sechrist Lakes, before moving into the town of North Webster. They were members of the North Webster United Methodist Church.
After Maxine died in 1997, he married Deloris Weyler in 2001. They continued to live in North Webster, and eventually moved to Fort Wayne where Deloris died in 2008. Since that time, Lotsie lived with his daughter, Beverly, in Lighthouse Point, Florida.
Lotsie said that he was staying alive to see the Chicago Cubs win the World Series. Unfortunately, we are not sure anyone can live that long. He became a great fan of University of Florida football and followed the Indianapolis Colts.
