Marilyn Grindle

July 11th

Marilyn Kay (Wright) Grindle formally of North Webster passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2017. She was born to Clarence and Anna (Baumgarten) Wright on April 9, 1938. She married Theodore Grindle on June 3, 1956.

They had 5 girls in three years, including two sets of twins: Debra (Mitch) Day, Gay Grindle (deceased), Kim Hershberger (deceased), Jan (Ted) McMurtrey, and Jill Grindle. We were the apples of her eye…..until grandchildren came along. Then we watched her heart grow 10 fold as each one arrived: Amie Koontz, Melissa Koontz-Garboden, Krista Oldenburg, Megan Smeltzer, Andrew Hershberger, Sara Warnke, Sasha Byrd-Long, Amanda Bogue, Diana Buxton, Eric Allen, Adam Loftis, and Taylor Loftis.

She enjoyed baking, gardening, planning grandkid sleepovers, her little red truck, and Christmas Eve with all her family around. She went to college at age 50 and earned an Associates in Computer Science with almost straight A’s. She and her husband taught Sunday school at Warsaw Wesleyan Church and volunteered for Hospice in the Warsaw area. She was a Mermaid Festival Princess. She loved to travel, especially trips with her sister Norma and ‘the other Marilyn Grindle’, who was like a sister to her. But most of all she loved people – all people – and welcomed many into her home for a meal or for a place to stay, becoming ‘Mom’ and ‘Grandma’ to a few extras along the way.

Other survivors include: Brother – Don (Dee) Wright, Sister – Norma (Arthur) Buchanan. Great grandchildren: Xavier Koontz-Miller, Anica Koontz-Miller, Fynn Koontz-Hughes, Marimae Koontz-Hughes, Heath Koontz-Garboden, Blaine Koontz-Garboden, Eden Oldenburg, Eli Oldenburg, Reagan Oldenburg, Elizabeth Bogue, Oliver Buxton, Charlotte Buxton, Rebecca Warnke, Josiah Long and Ki’Myiah Long, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, sister – Mabel (Dan) Stahly, and brother – Norval Wright.

Friends and family may call from 4:00 to 8:00 pm on Sunday, July 16 and from 10:00 to 11:00 am on Monday, July 17 at Eastlund Funeral Home, 7458 E 1000 N, Syracuse, IN 46567.
