Paralee Traster

Paralee Traster, 91, formerly of Syracuse, IN, passed away on February 15, 2015 at VNA Hospice Center in Valparaiso, IN. Mrs. Traster had been a resident of Rittenhouse Senior Living in Valparaiso for the last three years after living most of her life in Syracuse, Indiana. She was born in North Judson, Indiana to William and Mabel (Lain) Harvey on May 3, 1923. Paralee was a graduate of Syracuse High School and Wayne University of Beauty Culture. During World War II she was employed at Kingsbury Ordinance Plant and C.G Conn Ltd. and was presented the Army Navy Production Award for her efforts on the home front during the war. After the war she married Frederick J. Traster on September 27, 1946. She operated Paralee’s Beauty Salon in Syracuse for over sixty years. She was a fifty year member of the Order of the Eastern Star, and a longtime member of the Calvary United Methodist church. Affectionately known as Grammy by her grandchildren and great grandchildren she loved all of her extended family. She is survived by her daughter Sue (Edward) Hussey of Valparaiso, Indiana, her son Jay (Diane) Traster of Cape Coral, Florida and five grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, sisters Phyllis, Virginia, Wilma Claire and Kathleen, brothers George, James, William, and Richard and grandson Timmy. Friends may call Friday, February 20 from 10-noon at the Eastlund Funeral Home in Syracuse. Services will be held at noon with pastor David Henry officiating.
