Stanley Hoopingarner

Stanley Hoch Hoopingarner, 84, of Syracuse, IN passed away on June 4, 2012 at the Maples Rehabilitation in Goshen.  He was born on June 8, 1927 in Elkhart, IN to Fred & Clela Hoopingarner.  He was a Syracuse High School graduate in the class of 1945.  He received his BA from Ball State University in 1950, then his Masters in 1954 also from Ball State.  He was a Seaman First Class in the US Navy in WWII from May 1945 until being Honorably Discharged on August 1, 1946.  He was a teacher for 40 years at Syracuse, Wawasee Community, Clinton Community as well as Fairfield.  He was a Kiwanis member for 35 years.  He was also a 4H Club Leader.  On August 13, 1950 he married Catherine Louise Pinkerton who survives.  He is survived by his wife of Syracuse, 3 children – Elaine (Donald) Bokhart of Syracuse, Connie (Herman) Houin of Grosse Point Shores, MI & Steven (Darcy) Hoopingarner of Columbia City.  6 Grandchildren – Janice (Johnny) Davis, Brent (Jessica) Bokhart, Kathyrn Houin, Patrick Houin, Ashley Hoopingarner, & Christena Hoopingarner.  Calling will be Friday, June 8, 2012 from 3-7 PM at the Eastlund Funeral Home.  Services will be Saturday, June 9, 2012 at 2:00 PM at the funeral home.  Ted Mahnensmith will officiate the services.  Interment will follow at the Syracuse Cemetery with military honors.  Memorial Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
