Sylvia Harder

May 28th
Sylvia LeCount Harder went to be with the Lord on Saturday, May 25th, 2024 at the age of 87. She
was born in Cincinnati, OH, on October 25, 1936, to Dr. R. Dale LeCount and Dorothy O’Brien
LeCount. She came to know Jesus as her savior at a very early age.
Sylvia attended Lindenwood College, Saint Charles, MO, and after attending one year transferred to
The University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa, AL, where she received a BA degree in May, 1958. She was
married to Donald Emile Harder, also a graduate of the University, on November 25, 1960. They were
blessed with two sons Brian Emile Harder of Lake Worth, FL, December 13, 1961, and Alan Dale
Harder of Anderson, SC, May 19, 1966, and one grandson, Austin Terence Harder of Tucson, AZ, July
13, 1997.
The daughter and granddaughter of Presbyterian ministers, Sylvia was very devoted to her church
work. She played the piano and organ and had a great love of music in general and church music in
particular. A high soprano, she sang in her church choirs for over 60 years.
While attending The University of Alabama, Sylvia pledged to and became an active member of the
Alpha Chi Omega sorority. She loved her sorority and continued to be active in it after her graduation.
While living near Miami, FL, Sylvia became active in the Miami Alumnae Chapter of Alpha Chi
Omega, where she served as Vice President and President.
Sylvia lived a life based on Christ’s example, humbly loving and serving others. Her beautiful smile
and loving spirit overflowed onto everyone fortunate enough to know her. Her life was characterized
by the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, goodness, kindness, faithfulness and self-control. During the
long illness preceding her death she continued to show her loving spirit. We are comforted to know
she is now in the presence of our Lord in Heaven.
The beautiful way she lived her life will forever be cherished by those she left behind: husband
Donald, brother Dr. R. Dale LeCount, Jr., Matthews, NC, sons Brian and Alan, grandson Austin,
daughter-in-law Anne Garner Harder, cousin David Jones, Syracuse, IN. Sylvia will also be
remembered with love and admiration by all of her brothers and sisters in Christ as well.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, June 12, 2024 from 7-9 PM at the Eastlund Funeral Home.
Services will be held on Thursday, June 13, 2024 at 10 AM at Eastlund Funeral Home.  A private
family burial will follow at the Syracuse Cemetery.
