Wayne Gronendyke
After a courageous battle with Frontal Temporal Dementia, Wayne Thomas Gronendyke peacefully passed away peacefully surrounded by his children on Sunday, February 23rd at the age of 64. Though the disease took much from him, his sense of humor and love for music remained. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
Wayne was born March 22, 1960 to Donna Strickland(Caswell)and Thomas Oliver Gronendyke.
Wayne grew up in Syracuse, IN where he graduated from Wawasee High school in 1978. During his time there, he became well-known for his dedication to high school wrestling. After high-school Wayne joined the Army. During his time in service, Wayne proudly served his country, including a significant deployment to Germany which always held a special spot in his heart. He served until 1984.
Wayne was previously married to Carrie Gronendyke (Dunakin) with whom they had four beautiful children Trisha, Thomas, Joshua and Cassandra.
In addition to his children Wayne is survived by his half sisters Dawn Bell (Taylor) and Toni Morrow (Gronendyke).
Sadly, he did not have the opportunity to know his grandchildren, Delaney Gronendyke, Elliana King, Wrenley Gronendyke, Mila Gronendyke but his love for them was immeasurable. They will forever carry his memory in their hearts.
He is proceeded in death by his Mother Donna Strickland, Father Thomas Gronendyke and brother Vince Gronendyke.
Wayne worked at Yoder Kitchens of Nappanee for over 23 years, where he went on to open his own custom door company Elite Finish Solutions up until his disease took effect.
His laugh was contagious, his humor was unmatched and he would give the shirt off his back to anyone and everyone. He lived life with a love for rock ‘n roll and a cold beer, and his memory will always be filled with his laughter, strength, and love for his family. As we grapple with the loss of his physical presence, we find solace in knowing that his spirit lives on through music and the love he instilled in us.
A public viewing will be held on Thursday, July 3rd at 2:00 pm at Eastlund Funeral Home in Syracuse, Indiana. Family and friends are invited to come together to celebrate and honor Wayne’s life.
Following the public viewing, a private burial will take place at Syracuse Cemetery for the immediate family.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you raise a glass of your favorite beer, play a song that reminds you of Wayne and keep his spirit alive in your hearts. Wayne always believed that the best way to honor life was to live it fully and with a drink in hand so let’s do that in his memory.
