Barbara Joan Matney, 92, was called home by Christ on June, 4th 2026, to be reunited with her loved ones. Born on April 13, 1934, in Ossian, Indiana, Barbara was the cherished daughter of Robert and Katherine Nicholson.

Barbara spent her life in Indiana, living in Muncie, Richmond, and Syracuse. She graduated from Muncie Central High School in 1952 and never quite got over the fact that Milan won the state championship in 1954.

In 1953, Barbara met the love of her life, Jack Matney, at the Tippy Dance Hall. Their romance blossomed, and they were married in 1955. Jack affectionately called her “Queenie,” a nickname that reflected the special bond they shared throughout their marriage.

Barbara dedicated much of her career to serving others as a bank teller and notary public. She concluded her working years at Precision Automotive in Syracuse, Indiana.

She took great pride in her home and was known for her love of housekeeping and frequently rearranging her furniture. Barbara enjoyed spending time with friends through the Red Hat Club and card club. She also generously volunteered for many years at Goshen Hospital.

An enthusiastic sports fan, Barbara rarely missed cheering for Notre Dame football, Indiana University basketball, and especially any sporting event involving her grandsons. She was also an avid auto racing fan and enjoyed following the excitement of the sport.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Katherine Nicholson; her beloved husband, Jack Matney; and her son, Richard Matney.

She is survived by her son, Kent Matney (Sue) of Goshen, Indiana; her daughter, Pamela Lemish of Cromwell, Indiana; five grandsons, Ryan, Joe, Jake, Cody, and Spencer; and ten great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immense joy and pride.  She is also survived by her daughter in law D’Anna Matney.

Barbara will be remembered for her devotion to family, her strong work ethic, her generous spirit, and her unwavering enthusiasm for the people and activities she loved. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.  There will be a graveside service for Barbara on Saturday, June 20, 2026 at 12 Noon.  Eastlund Funeral Home is handling her arrangements.
